Designers should champion the “why” behind the user’s need.


Business brings the commercial reality.
Technology brings the technical reality.
Design brings the user and behavioural reality.

All three are essential to good product decisions. They should shape the trade-offs around a problem, not redefine the problem simply because the original solution is harder or more expensive to build.

The designer’s role is to protect the intent behind the problem while helping the team find the most viable way to address it.
Hold on to the WHY. Navigate the constraints. Don’t lose sight of the problem.
